Training Update

Since it's Saturday and most normal people are sleeping in, I realize that by the time many of you find your way to this post, my first 10K will be over. But, alas, it's today! The race should be fun, but I hear the route is pretty hilly. My neighbor and I are doing the race together, so I'm hoping it goes well for us!

After this, I have one month until my half marathon. Eek! I'm getting really nervous, but excited.

My training is going pretty well. Technically I'm supposed to run 9 miles this weekend for my long run, but since I have the race, the 10K will count as my long run for the week, which is 6.2 miles. Then I'll probably rest for a couple of days, and try for 9 miles next week. I did 8 miles last week and I felt pretty strong throughout, but I practically crawled up the stairs to the bathroom when I got back. So there's that. Everyone has told me that once you get past the 8 mile mark, the rest is a little easier. We'll see, people. We'll see.

I do feel pretty good, though. I'm not fast, and my endurance isn't even that great, but I know how to pace myself, control my breathing, and talk myself up while I'm running. I know as long as I stay positive, I can do this. Running is such a mental game. I know if I can keep the feeling of crossing the finish line in the front of my mind, I will get through it.
