My Wedding: Food and Cake
This post is part of a series about our DIY Kentucky Vineyard wedding. It was such a labor of love and there is so much to tell, so I’ll be splitting it up into categories. I hope you’ll find some inspiration and entertainment from what we did for our wedding, along with some ideas for your own day! You can read about the music here, the venue here, the decorations here, the dress here,my favorite moments here, the wedding party attire here, our gifts here!
Ah, the menu. Choosing what type of food to serve at our reception was no easy task. Like most things about our wedding, we had a few too many ideas and had to figure out how to narrow it down. We decided on "fancy cook out food," and used a buffet-style set up.
Our menu included a little bit of everything we love, and was made by the people we love — our friends and family.

I hear everything was delicious, but I didn't really get to eat much, so I don't remember. (Being a bride basically means you starve for a year and then go to a drive-thru after your reception. Sorry, ladies.) We wanted our menu to reflect us, where we come from and what kind of atmosphere we wanted the day to have — fun but unique!
We also served wine from the vineyard (naturally), as well as beer and champagne.
As for the cake, our dear friend Candice made it for us, and it was beautiful. And delicious, even after being in the freezer for a year. I showed Candice several photos of different cakes I liked, and she designed mine based on those ideas, and I made our cake topper, which was a little fringed banner that said "best day ever."

I think our menu was special and memorable, but wasn't stuffy or overly expensive. It is totally possible to feed 300 (yes, 300) people on a budget and still have them enjoy their food. It's all going to depend on what style of wedding you're having, how many people you have to feed and what type of food you like. Our reception fit who we are — not too casual, not too serious, just the right amount of whimsy and fun.
What type of food do you like best for weddings? Do you prefer formal or casual receptions?
